To ensure consistency BlueCat (like IPreg before it) requires that targets for CNAMEs, MX records etc. exist. However, sometimes a record is outside our control. For these we create external placeholder records.
IT staff who are in an existing admin group may add external host records using the tools here:
DNS Tools (registered users only)
Once an external host has been created, any CNAME in BlueCat (including those in other people's zones) can reference that host.
